r.b.richter (ME!) Making Artwork Debut in Portland, Right Now

I’m showing my work in Portland, OR, for the very first time–my debut, if you will.  And, it’s expected to be just the beginning, as we’re lining up more local venues for the coming months.

And those months should be interesting, as I will be showing a wide variety of my work executed over the long stretch of time when I was holed up in my studio producing, but not “getting out there.”  For example, here, we’re starting with a trio of older pieces, part of a small series of large-scale un-stretched  expressionist canvases meant to hang tapestry style.  Though they look quite different from my current work, a discerning eye will see the roots of my artist’s philosophy.  Given their size–the size of a doorway–and subject matter (mostly male nudes), this series tends to be a bit less…subtle…than newer work in their reach to make a connection or elicit a gut reaction.  As in my current work though, they are meant to encourage you to bring your own life experience to them, and discover something about yourself through your reaction.

Now showing through November at Sidecar 11 Bar, 3955 N. Mississippi Ave. in Portland historic and trendy N. Mississippi neighborhood.

And for added enticement to stop by and check it out:  there are two other artists showing:  wood carved shadow boxes and photography (variety is the spice of life!), and Sidecar just happens to do free wine tasting on Tuesdays!  In fact, we’ll be there Tuesday, Nov. 13 around 5pm.  Stop by and say hi!
